Frequently Asked Questions about eFalcon 1.09
My radar altimeter doesn't seem to be showing/A-LOW doesn't warn me when I'm too low
If you start from take-off, this is one of the things you need to switch on before or after take-off. If you start in the air, if should be on. The radar altimeter also only works within certain pitch/roll levels, so you need to make sure you are not trying to get a radar altimeter fix while inverted.
My A-LOW goes off far too high, around 10,000ft.
This is correct. You get a warning when you descend below the MSL altitude (10,000ft by default). You can change this value on the ICP/DED.
Radar doesn't seem to work when I'm on the runway.
This is correct. Radar only scans when you leave the ground (no weight-on-wheels WOW)
TFR seems to bob up and down
Yes - we know, we will attempt to remedy this in future, together with correct symbology and use of the correct pods
FLIR is not aligned in the HUD with the normal view.
This is also a known problem, FLIR is still undergoing development like the TFR.
LGB's miss all the time.
Try turning your laser on. Check the laser pulse code too, that won't help but its a neat feature. LGBs require the target to be lased until impact now, if they loose the lock, they'll just go ballistic.
I get a WARN message on the HUD, but it doesn’t go when I press the Master Caution reset.
The Warn message is now cancelled by the WARN reset button. This is on the ICP panel, or else use Alt-W keystroke.
The autopilot key ‘a’ doesn’t fly the plane.
The autopilot key only activates in Compat and Steerpoint Autopilot settings. With realistic (3-axis) autopilot selected you have to use the new autopilto switches to decide what the autopilot is going to control.
I'd like to get more Frames Per Second (FPS) than I currently get.
Wouldn't we all. However read the 1.09 manual for some hints on what should and shouldn't be changed.
Ok - so how do I change that stuff you mention in the manual
Look in the base falcon4 directory for the configuration program installed by the installer. Use that to change and tweak the program. Alternatively, you can edit the eFalcon.cfg file by hand, with notepad of something similar. Its all text - and fairly obvious format.
Has the graphics engine been rewritten for this version.
No. We felt we had enough new functionality here to justify a release. The new graphics engine will be along in a future release.
Does this version have the new netcode.
No - this version just has enhanced 1.0799 net code. There are some better checks, and some more work arounds, but it is still basically the same code as before.
I tried to refuel in flight, but the dumb tankers wouldn't let me.
You did remember to open the refueling door I take it?
Shooting uncaged, boresight missiles doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong?
Shooting uncaged missiles isn't totally complete, but it can be done. Currently, the AIM9 diamond dances around on the HUD. The Aim9 seeker head is at this point looking for something to lock up, and is responding to background heat sources.
Line up the diamond with the heat source and it should begin to track. If not, press the missile step command (shift /) to switch to slave (to get the diamond in the center of the HUD), then press the missile step command again when you have the diamond over or near the heat source to switch. Back to boresight (uncaged). When you get a track and a tone, shoot. The real F-16's missile step switch is the S1 (index finger) button on the FLCS (or F22). If you don't have this mapped to do that, shooting boresight AIM9s will be a little more painful.
Are the target boxes for Mavericks and GBUs smaller now or are my eyes going bad?
Yes, they're smaller. HUD tapes have shown that the previous size was much too big. This smaller size should also make it easier to sort targets.
When I fire my aim120's there is no smoke trail. What happened?
That is the correct modeling of the smokeless rocket motor in the missile. After a brief exhaust, it burns clean.
What the heck does 'shackle' mean in my wingman commands?
This is the call for your wingman to change sides.
Sometimes I don't hear AWACS answer me in Campaign.
In an aerial war as complex as Korea, AWACS can become saturated or ma not covering your area, especially if you are operating very far to the north. If you use the g_bAWACSRequired setting, then an AWACS must be assigned to your flight to respond. In campaigns not all flights get such assignments.
My aim120's are constantly missing.
Firing this missile requires discipline. Just because your intended target is within the DLZ, if they turn and run your missile may be lost. Good rules of thumb: At 16 miles, if they beam your shot, it is most likely going to miss. At 10 miles, if they run directly away from the missile, it may be lost.
When I start at the ramp, I hear my jet power up, but I haven't touched anything yet.
What you are hearing is probably your wingman’s jet. They are very keen to get started and light up as soon as they can. It may be your own jet if you selected combat Autopilot in which case it will preflight your jet for you.
I started from the ramp, how do I find the runway?
I have no idea... just drive around for a while. Wind down the window, and ask a passing tank.
Can I get fries with that?
No. I think you’re at the wrong window.
Can I rename my Wingmen to Frugal, eRazor and Gilman in this version.
Stop it you’re starting to scare me.
