JetNet |
I've received some questions about JetNet, so I asked Mirv if he could clarify a couple of the most frequent
ones. And of course he could... ;)
- What is JetNet?
Jetnet is basically just an in-game server browser similar to Gamespy, and completely compatible with GS. It's very easy to use and pretty
self-explanitory. The readme tells how to set up, and connect to a Jetnet game.
- Is there some anti-cheat functionality in 1.0799 multiplayer?
Well, for this release, there really isn't much anti-cheat functionality. The thing to do is, don't fly with people you suspect to be
cheating ;). The best you can do right now is, password protect games and limit the number of players to actually how many will be
flying. Of course, the host setting their realism options helps to. In the future, we hope to have some cheat checks, as well as
password protecting before even CONNECTING to someone's comms. Right now, you can connect to their comms (NOT the mission) without a
password. Originally, password-protecting on joining a server (from the Jetnet window) would break the netcode compatibility with
i2.exe. We later broke the compatibility anyway to get the best results, but got too busy to password-protect joining comms.
That's it for now, but if you have any more questions about JetNet, send them to me, and I'll update this page.
